I do draw on my recollection of real events for some of the story lines in some of my books, but only as broad outlines. I try to stay away from specifics and all of my character names and descriptions are completely random.
I do base my Thomas Clipper Mystery Series in Bangor and the surrounding area but I’ve taken many liberties with the map. Specific locations are generally not authentic, and never accurate in terms of the locations of any criminal activity.
I guess, like most authors, I write about one, what I know and, two, what interests me. I have always had a deep interest in history and I often try to include real historical anchors to my fictional timelines.
Yup.
I think most of my characters are made up of a conglomeration of people I’ve known, especially in terms of personality traits.
Because I can. I’m a maker; I’m somehow compelled to create things. I also tinker with carpentry, woodworking and wood and bone carving.
Yup, sometimes. Not great poetry, and only when the spirit moves me, but yup.
